Viva La Beautiful Hair!

Has anyone watched the Price of Beauty?
Jessica Simpson’s new reality TV show, The Price of Beauty, is a show where she basically travels many parts of the world to take a look at what each one of these cultures consider a being “beautiful.” I think the idea is wonderful. Many of us actually need to look outside our own little world and realize that having whatever flaws we may have is not such a big deal after all.
In Westernized cultures, for instance, we truly deeply care about looks (this blog is an example of how obsessed we are with beauty
), and our concept of beauty is—unfortunately— controlled by the media, or you can call it Hollywood. For other women of different cultures around the world, the hair might be the last thing they care for, and for some, the hair isn’t even visible to the outside world.
Seeing all the different concepts that people have about what constitutes “beauty,” on The Price of Beauty, makes me re-think about how in this society we are constantly obsessing over things that are not even that important in the end. My conclusion of all this is that every culture will always follow different ways of life and traditions, and as long as we don’t take it to the extreme—risking our own health to ultimately look like Jessica Alba, for example—wanting to look clean and have beautiful hair can actually be healthy for us. Just like everything else that is done in excess, sometimes things can be harmful.
So as long as we proceed with care and use more natural ways to take care of ourselves, everything should be okay. Be gorgeous the safe way!
