Hair Color Care

Pureology Antifade Complex

This conditioner promises long-lasting hair color and hydrated locks. It keeps color fresh and replaces the moisture robbed by color-treating.

I must say: it is a very good conditioner. It adds moisture to my dry, sometimes damaged curly hair making detangling and blow-drying a lot easier. The color-protecting properties it contains worked for me. I had dark blonde hair when I was using this conditioner on a regular basis and every time I finished blow-drying I could notice that the color came to life a bit.

My boyfriend is a big fan of this Pureology; he’s been buying it for over two years now, so every now and then I get to use it. I don’t like using it for my every hair-wash because — aside from the fact that I love trying new exciting and promising products — this conditioner is so smooth that it makes everything that touches it very slippery. (My bathtub turns into an ice skating rink.)

But hey, it is a great conditioner. Really good for dry stubborn hair. I’ve never tried their shampoo and it makes me curious. Maybe someone out there has and wants to share their experience??

To better hair days!

Conditioning Balm for Dry Stressed Hair

BIOLAGE HYDRATHERAPIE

I recently started using another nourishing balm. It’s by MATRIX — they usually make really good products — but I’m not overly impressed by this hydration therapy balm…yet (maybe it’s too soon to tell?). The instructions say to leave it in for 1-3 minutes. But for me, in order to get the best benefit from it, I have to leave it on for longer than that — 5 to 10 minutes. So here is what I found:

What it claims to do: it restores balance to instantly renew softness and elasticity to dry hair.

What it does: it leaves the hair smelling incredibly fresh, like the fresh smell of flowers, and gives it moisture. That’s about what it does for me. Perhaps it is not the best match for my texture (maybe I should have grabbed their Colorcaretherapie instead, since I have color-treated hair). And I don’t know if it’s doing its magic on the background — repairing breakage, split ends, and dryness — but I know that after I rinse it out, I actually have to apply a leave-in conditioner (usually my Sebastian Penetraitt) or something else because the softness is not there anymore. I also paid a lot for this balm and I’m not getting exactly what I expected. I guess I’ll keep using it until it’s finished to see if it works better after prolonged use.

I think that this product would probably work best for medium thin to fine hair, also people who have relaxed their hair should try this product as it helps keep elasticity. Leaving it on for more than 3 minutes works, too.

Curly Hair? Here is Dry to Moisturized

Pantene for Curly Hair: Dry to Moisturized

Since I love to curl my hair from time to time, I wanted to find not only a good curling conditioner, but also a good hydrating one to protect and define my curls. I am tired of buying expensive treatments, conditioners, and curls-defining products that don’t deliver what they promise. This well-known product is something different and more affordable. I’m talking about the curly hair series by Pantene: Dry to Moisturized.

What it claims to do: it promotes that you should know the hair you have to get the hair you want; it goes to explain the reasons for weak cuticles, rough and difficult hair, and then it states that this product “helps seal and smooth cuticle edges to replenish hair from root to tip, which helps regulate your dry hair’s natural moisture balance, define curls and control frizz.”

What it does: Their mission is very well stated—it sounds like everything a person with dry, damaged, curly hair wants to hear, but does it deliver? Indeed, to me, this conditioner does what it promises to do in terms of moisturizing and defining the curls. It leaves the hair so soft, silky, and flexible. I love it. Pantene conditioners have always done the job for me, but I had forgotten about that. Now, it is one of my favorites again.

The only thing that I would suggest is rinsing out the conditioner completely from the hair if you’re going to blow-dry or use the flat iron; otherwise, it will feel too heavy, coarse, and can give you some dandruff.

I think curly-haired people will like this conditioner.

Victalia Hair Products

Treatment Lotion

I first heard about Victalia on one of my trips to the Dominican Republic, although these are actually Italian hair products. Like every other hair companies, Victalia targets different types of hair. I tried two of their hair products and I actually liked this line. But today I’m reviewing just the conditioner (or emulsion) designed for colored hair.

What it claims to do: The AFTER TECHNIC TREATMENT LOTION releases active elements to protect colored hair from fading, damage due to external agents and heat.

What it does: On my kind of hair, this Victalia conditioner worked. It is designed to keep the hair color from fading, but I also found that it moisturizes the hair since it is supposed to be kind of a leave-in conditioner. I applied it to my hair while it was wet, blow dried after and the results were phenomenal. The final result is very smooth–and straight–hair.

I wouldn’t say this one with the yellow bottle smells great, but I’d say it is worth trying it. Again, they have other products which are also great. There’s a nourishing conditioner by Victalia (red bottle) and it is also great. I really recommend it!

Biosilk

Silk therapy conditioner

Biosilk Conditioner

What it claims to do: Biosilk products’ main mission in general is to leave the hair silky. The silk therapy conditioner’s mission is the same.

What it does: This conditioner did not satisfy my needs. It might have added some shine to my hair, but it didn’t exactly soften my hair or anything else. It feels great on your hands and it’s very silky, but when I applied it to my hair it didn’t pass the detangling test; I couldn’t comb my wet hair easily. In fact, my hair felt kind of rough and I couldn’t even run my fingers through it. I ended up rinsing it out of my hair to apply a second conditioner in order to detangle my hair.

It is possible that this conditioner doesn’t do well with chemically treated hair because I tried other products by Biosilk before and the results were better than this time. I used to curl my hair with this conditioner and the curls were bouncy, hydrated, and they looked great. As always, I have to rate the smell and I have to say that it smells nice and it stays on your hair. So that’s one of the positives.
